StratoReading is a reading comprehension app for Kindergarten to Grade 8 that makes a child write, and then does the marking properly.
Why it exists
Reading comprehension workbooks work, and almost nobody keeps up with them. Marking one properly means reading the whole passage, reading your child’s answer, and working out precisely what is missing from it. That is twenty minutes of concentration per passage, and most parents stop within two weeks.
The alternative most families settle for is multiple choice software. It is easy to keep up with because it never asks a child to write anything, which is also the reason it cannot tell you what your child understood.
So the whole product is the part everyone skips: a child writes a real answer, and something marks it against the same rubrics a teacher would use and explains the score in words the child can act on.
What it will not do
It will not label your child
A child using StratoReading is never shown a grade, a level number, a score another child got, or the point at which the app would move them down a step. They see the reading, their own recent results and what to aim for next. You see everything.
It will not pressure a child about money
No countdowns, no expiring offers, no screen that asks a child to buy anything. A child cannot subscribe, so no button shown to a child pretends they can.
It will not make things up
Passages are about things that really happened. When sources disagree on a number, the passage takes the smallest claim they all support. When the authoritative source does not confirm a figure, the figure does not appear.
It will not sell what you do here
No advertising, no third party analytics, and nothing about a child sold to anyone. There is no tracking on this website either, which you can confirm by opening the network tab.
How we decide something is true
The same rule the passages follow applies to this website. Every statistic carries its source and the date it was published, and a number no authoritative source confirms is left out even when it would help the argument. One figure was dropped from the home page on exactly that basis: two news outlets carried it and the official page did not state it.
The marking is calibrated against thousands of real answers written by real children and scored by trained scorers against published rubrics, rather than against an opinion about what a good answer looks like.
StratoReading is being built, and nothing is charged for it yet. Accounts open in stages while we make sure a child's writing is looked after properly. If they are not open where you are reading this, the sign in page says so instead of taking your address.
