Most reading software asks a child to pick A, B, C or D. This asks them to write, marks what they wrote against real teaching rubrics, and then shows them the exact sentence that was missing.
Why we built it
StratoReading was built by a parent who wanted more for his children than school was going to provide.
It replaces the reading comprehension workbooks you buy and then have to mark yourself. Marking one properly means reading the whole passage, reading your child’s answer, and working out what is missing from it. Most parents stop doing that within two weeks. The alternative most families settle for is multiple choice software, which never asks a child to write anything at all.
So the child writes, and the marking is the product. Every score comes with the reason for it, in words a child can act on.
Your child sits in a classroom about six hours a day for thirteen years. Nationally, here is what that is producing.

of US fourth graders reach the national reading standard called Proficient. That is two points below 2022 and four points below 2019.

What a marked answer actually looks like
This is the whole product in one panel. The child answers in their own words. The marking names what earned the mark and what did not, against the criterion it belongs to, and it never just says the answer was wrong.
Then it shows two better answers rather than one. The first is the child’s own sentence with the smallest possible changes, so they can see how close they already were. The second is written from scratch. Showing only a model answer reads as a rebuke and teaches nothing about the gap.

Three things that make it different
They write, so you find out what they know
A child can guess their way through four options and learn nothing. Writing an answer has no guessing in it. What comes back is what they actually understood.
The reading meets your child, not their year group
Difficulty is a smooth ladder rather than a grade label. A child ahead of their year is not bored and a child behind it is not drowning. They are never shown a grade, a level number or another child’s score.
They choose the subjects
A bored child does not get better at reading. Your child picks what they care about and every passage comes from those choices. You can add subjects of your own.
Where this is up to
